Peanut butter sandwiches aren’t just for kids! This modern version is a high-fiber treat with an extra dose of fruit on the side.

Recipe Ingredients:

8 slices whole-wheat or multigrain bread (about 1 oz each)

8 tbsp smooth peanut butter

2 bananas, mashed

2 apples peeled, cored, and finely chopped

1/3 cup walnuts, finely chopped (almonds are a good substitute)

1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tsp honey

2 tbsp sweet red wine

Preparation:

For the sandwich, spread 2 tablespoons peanut butter on the bread and top with mashed banana.

To prepare sweet apples, combine apples and walnuts in a bowl. Sprinkle cinnamon over mixture and incorporate. Add honey and sweet wine and fold all ingredients together.

Serve sandwich and sweet apples on a plate.
