*In a CMWL multicenter randomized trial involving 550 patients who followed a CMWL Low-Calorie Diet (LCD) or Modified LCD Program, both with and without appetite suppressants, the average weight loss was 2 pounds per week over a 12-week period. The research was wholly funded by an independent third party with the exception of travel expenses. According to a study published in The American Journal of Medicine, participants completing a 12-week medical weight loss program lost 11.1% of their body weight, on average. Results may vary.
The Center for Medical Weight Loss (CMWL) has given me back my life. To date, I have lost 44 pounds in five months, from a starting weight of 264 pounds. I accomplished something I thought was impossible.
Before the weight loss, I was confronted with the prospects of continuing medical problems and full disability from work. I was diagnosed with diabetes and multiple sclerosis (MS), and felt like a physical wreck. I kept saying to myself that if I lost the weight I would feel a lot better, but was never able to lose the weight before.
My diabetes is now under control, with my need for insulin discontinued, and my MS is more manageable. I no longer need my cane to walk and I have returned to work full-time.
With my medical condition, I was also fearful of any severe diet plan that would make my situation worse. The CMWL plan provided by the physician was hard at first, but the weight loss results in the first few weeks encouraged me to continue. The weekly counseling helped me to understand the process of weight loss and that it was going to take time to take it off.
My wife insisted that I didn’t need to pay for what I was doing, that I could do it myself. The fact that I never did it before, and now I was doing it, convinced me that I was doing the right thing, no matter what the cost. Like my wife, some may say that the program is costly. But it worked for me, and I can’t put a price on the change it has made in my life. I view it in the same context as having stomach surgery and how much that would have cost. I got the same results without having surgery; I bypassed my mouth instead of my stomach.
I now feel I have enough control to count my own calories, keep a food diary, and do my own cooking to succeed without additional shakes and bars. But I would like to thank The Center for Medical Weight Loss for getting me started.
